There are plenty of different beverages available now that it is difficult to know what to choose. One of the easiest ways to discover which the best wines are is to find reviews. At least that way you will have some inclination of the type of wine it is as well as the quality of the wine. Recommendations are really one of the best way of discovering delicious wines.
I used to often drink cocktails and have a great Zenmeister recipe which I used to make up. Even the most seemingly difficult cocktails are actually easy to make. For instance, the Zenmeister recipe uses the following ingredients:
1/2 oz Jagermeister® herbal liqueur
1/2 oz root beer
Cocktails are cool to have at a party or at a cool bar but they sure are very expensive! Even during happy hour, you can often break a budget by having a few cocktails. So nowadays, more often than not I will stick to red wine or champagne. I have educated myself on the best organic wines available and know that drinking wine over cocktails generally means I get a tasty drink which is probably better for me and with fewer calories.
Whenever I can I prefer to order Australian organic wine or no added preservative wine. I enjoy American wines but am willing to try anything. I have happily tried wines from South Africa before and they have been some of the best wines I have ever had. It is not necessarily a good idea to choose a wine based on the location where it is made, you can be shocked at the quality of wines grown in regions not known for wine production.
There are many places where you can find wine recommendations to allow you to make a good choice in wine. Whether you prefer red or sparkling wine, you can find recent reviews online. I like to read wine forums because you can then get fairly instant opinions on the wine you are contemplating drinking.
If you are interested in organic wines then visit Treehugger for details on how choosing organic wine is less harmful for soils. Wikipedia also has some great articles on organic farming and organic food and wine.
